the guyde: denim from the bottom up

As we discuss denim, its fit, its interconnected role in our fashion society, and (basically) my obsession with the stuff let us keep in mind the important thing: Denim should fit from the bottom up. Teach them in their youth and they shall not depart from the correct path.

the look: 110 years of respect

The business suit is an irreplaceable icon of education, respect, and ultimately power. It has been established as the look required for any occasion that demands a display of impeccable taste. Besides...what else is there for you to wear?
  • 1900s to the 1930s
  • 1940s to the 1970s
  • 1980s to 2010

At the end of the 110 years is a figure of equal distinction: Tom Ford. Ford has had significant weight on the modern menswear world; having dressed an extensive list of powerful figures as well as blazing trail as a diligent entrepreneur in the industry. You might hear me raving about him (often) in the future, fyi. The second most recent James Bond movie, Casino Royale, featured Tom Ford sunglasses. But the suits were still made by the internationally respected company, Brioni.

Who's your style icon? If it is yourself, that is very acceptable.

the fit: the man with the image

"Men's is really about style." -Dolce
"Yes, but it is also fashion...based on more details." -Gabbana (DNR, 10 Dec 2007)

Not only am I a lady interested in style and fashion, I am a lady very interested in men's style and fashion. That is because over time it has been straightforward and focused on the details while keeping the image intact. From Dolce & Gabbana it can be suggested that menswear is not about how much can be changed, but rather how much can be controlled. This led me on a search to find and present what men might need or want in the style arena.

My search: What men think of style and how they dress
I sent out a couple of short surveys that asked how much outfits should cost; where one shops and how often; what is interesting in modern street wear; where inspiration is found; which magazines you read; and etc.

The find: Some answers as to what men want in the marketplace that reflects their individual taste
These men do not want to follow the short half-lives of the latest flashy trends. Dressing well is completely based on individual taste and reflecting the quality within. Many identified with the statement, "I am my own man" when it comes to their wardrobe.

Style is your possession. We are judged by details. I will hear what you have to say, see what you have to show, serve what you might need. This blog is a presentation of style.
